This was the second time I did the shred in the morning after doing the shred the night before and it definitely seemed harder this time. It didn't help that I could barely keep my eyes open for the first 15 minutes but it was also less than 10 hours after doing the previous day's shred. Once we got to circuit 2 I think I started to wake up, but honestly I couldn't tell you if I phoned in circuit 1 or not.
Either way, I KNOW this shred is working. I am starting to get those oblique muscles that I know my wife loves and I'm pushing myself more when I can feel the abs working. I used to always be in shape so I never thought twice about doing something as simple as jumping jacks and mountain climbers. Now that I'm officially out of shape I can tell you that those simple exercises really do make a difference. Before we started this shred, I thought I would dance to one of Paige's videos with her and realized I couldn't make it 30 seconds without taking a break. Now I can jump around with her for the entire DVD and she is actually the one getting bored...or maybe embarrassed, I can't really tell yet.
We are a third of the way through this challenge and I have to give all of the props to Jillian. She really is onto something and I totally believe you can get more than enough workout in 20 minutes. I have done step classes with Ali that lasted an hour and I was not nearly as exhausted as I am in the 20 minutes of doing the shred. 21 days and counting!!
